Healthy Breakie

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! How many of us actually believe this? Fact is, skipping breakfast is equivalent to not fueling your car and wondering why it’s stalled. The reason you probably feel fatigued all morning is because you didn’t fuel up, and your body is running low on energy reserves.

“But I don’t have time to break my back over the stove in the morning” so the most you’ll have is a cup of coffee and on a really good day, a slice of toast with jam. By noon you start to feel laggy and all you want is a nap, but you can’t so you get cranky and the vibe for your whole day is off.

Yogurt-parfaitInstead of skipping on breakfast, make time for it. Wake up a little earlier, and as you go over your day in your head fix yourself some oatmeal with raisins (this I love having, it’s filling and delicious). Pick foods that are high fiber, have plenty of vitamins and protein to make sure you have enough energy for the day and are easily digestible. Avoid your regular fried foods, these you can have once in a while as a treat but for that ‘energizer bunny’ feeling keep it healthy.

What I like about these ideas is that you’re less likely to snack all day, which I have a problem with, or having a massive lunch which will make you useless for the rest of the day. These simple ideas are also quick and easy so you don’t have to spend ages in the kitchen.

For ingredients you can try different brands and items, Nakumatt and Healthy U have a lot of options. A friend takes mini wheetabix with natural yogurt and raisins in the morning with a slice of fruit. Tried this and found it quite nice, so that’s an idea. I know that most people say eating healthy is expensive, but there are affordable options; I do my fruit shopping at an open-air market instead of a super market. Things tend to be fresher and a lot more pocket friendly.

After work today, go buy some granola, yogurt, fruit, oatmeal…whatever you prefer, and change your morning regiment. Do this for a little while and you’ll do a bit of a natural detox and start to find that you have a lot more energy during the day.
